Sliding in for a splash on the world's highest inflatable 17th Sep 2015 5:00 AM

THE Hippo reaches nosebleed territory.

That's how Mackay Showgrounds manager Steve Gavioli sums up the world's highest inflatable water slide named the Hippo set to open to the public on Saturday.

"It's 18m in height. Nosebleed territory," Mr Gavioli said.

"When you see a picture of a person riding it, they are just dwarfed by its size."

But the Hippo isn't the only inflatable slip and slide for adults Water Wonderland owner Brad Phillips has in store at the world's largest inflatable theme park.

Yesterday his crew were busy setting up huge pools connected by a range of different water slides.

They had been at work about four days already.

"It's not just kids that come along, we have plenty of adults," Mr Phillips said.

"It gets people out of their comfort zones.

"Even the oldies come along and have a crack.

"It certainly tires the kids out; they go straight to sleep afterwards."

Mr Phillips said while the Hippo was an adrenaline rush, his favourite  commercial water slides for sale was "The Dinosaur".

"It's fast and has a big bump in the middle," he said.

"Kids love the paddle boats too.

"We had to buy about 15 extra because they were so popular."

Despite the enormity of the set up, Mr Phillips said they only used half a megalitre of water.

"Then we just have a garden soaker hose to keep the inflatable double slip and slide with pool wet," he said.

He also said they employed about 40 locals people.

A supervisor would be stationed at each slide and lifeguards would be on each pool.

Mr Gavioli said parents and family were able to come along and watch the kids enjoy the park without having to pay for entry themselves.
